PEG MGF (PEGylated Mechano Growth Factor) is a pegylated form of the IGF-1Ec splice variant in which the covalent addition of a polyethylene glycol (PEG) chain extends the half-life of the peptide in an experimental environment. In preclinical studies, PEG MGF is analyzed in the context of in vitro activation of skeletal muscle satellite cells and the IGF-1 signaling pathway. The product is intended solely for research purposes (Research Use Only) – it is not a medicinal product. Check out PEG MGF 5 mg in the One Peptides offer.

Mechano Growth Factor (MGF) is a splice variant of the IGF-1 gene, also known as IGF-1Ec (in humans) or IGF-1Eb (in rodents). It differs from systemic IGF-1 by the presence of a unique C-terminal sequence of 24 amino acids (so-called E-peptide), which gives it distinct biological properties observed in experimental models. MGF expression in tissues was first described by the team of Geoffrey Goldspink from University College London in the 1990s.
Native MGF has a short half-life in vivo, which limits its usefulness in longer research protocols. Pegylation – i.e. the covalent attachment of a polyethylene glycol chain – solves this problem, creating PEG MGF with a significantly extended presence time in the experimental environment. The pegylation process does not change the amino acid sequence of the peptide itself, but protects it against rapid enzymatic degradation.
In the scientific literature, PEG MGF is mainly studied in the context of activation of satellite cells (precursor muscle cells) in in vitro cultures, analysis of the IGF-1/PI3K/Akt pathway and modeling of regenerative processes in muscle and bone tissues. It is an important research tool in the field of skeletal muscle biology and tissue engineering.

PEG MGF 5 mg in the form of a lyophilized product is a research product intended for experiments requiring prolonged presence of the peptide in the culture environment or in in vivo models. Pegylation – the covalent attachment of a polyethylene glycol chain – provides a significantly longer half-life compared to native MGF, which translates into a more stable profile under experimental conditions. The 5 mg dose is suitable for both initial pilot studies and standard protocols involving analysis of the IGF-1/PI3K/Akt pathway and satellite cell activation in tissue models.
The freeze-dried form guarantees high stability during storage and allows for precise measurement of the solution after reconstitution in sterile water or an appropriate buffer. If you have questions about product compatibility with a specific research protocol, the One Peptides technical team will assist with product matching.
Both peptides are related to the growth hormone and IGF-1 pathway, but they act at different levels of this pathway. PEG MGF is a pegylated form of the IGF-1Ec splice variant — it acts directly at the level of IGF-1 to activate satellite cells in tissue models. HGH fragment 176-191 is a synthetic fragment of growth hormone (amino acids 176-191), studied in the context of lipid metabolism in animal models. Differences in molecular targets and observed effects in experimental models make these peptides tools for different types of research. More information in the HGH Fragment category.
PEG MGF and BPC-157 are studied in the context of tissue models, but their mechanisms are fundamentally different. PEG MGF acts through the IGF-1/PI3K/Akt pathway, focusing on the activation of satellite cells in muscle tissue. BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a pentadecapeptide derived from the gastric protection protein sequence, studied in models of angiogenesis, NO expression and modulation of the FAK-paxillin pathway. These different mechanistic profiles make these peptides complementary rather than interchangeable research tools. More about BPC-157 in the category BPC-157.
1. Is the PEG MGF available from One Peptides intended for clinical use?
NO. PEG MGF offered by One Peptides is intended for research use only. It is not a medicinal product and is not intended for use in humans or animals outside the context of approved research protocols.
2. What is the difference between PEG MGF and regular MGF?
The difference is the presence of a polyethylene glycol (PEG) chain covalently attached to the MGF peptide. Pegylation does not change the amino acid sequence, but protects the peptide against enzymatic degradation, which extends its half-life under experimental conditions. In research practice, this means a more stable profile over longer protocols.
3. How to store PEG MGF correctly?
PEG MGF lyophilisate should be stored at -20 degrees Celsius, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. After reconstitution in an appropriate buffer, the working solution should be stored at 2-8 degrees Celsius and used within the time frame specified in the research protocol.
4. What is the IGF-1 pathway and why is PEG MGF studied in it?
The IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor 1) pathway is a signaling cascade including the IGF-1R receptor, PI3K kinase, Akt kinase and downstream effectors. PEG MGF, as a splice variant of IGF-1Ec, is being studied in the context of activation of this pathway in skeletal muscle satellite cells – precursor cells responsible for the regenerative capacity of muscle tissue observed in in vitro models.
5. Does PEG MGF require special reconstitution conditions?
Reconstitution of PEG MGF requires the use of sterile water for injection or an appropriate buffer (e.g. PBS) as required by the specific test protocol. The solution should be prepared under aseptic conditions. Detailed instructions for reconstitution are available in the product documentation on the product sheet.
